From Chicago to Wedding Central

We had a fabulous time in Chicago... Not enough time... But it was great... I LOVE that city....
I did manage to get the kids to Sheds Aquarium, Field Museum, American Doll store...(Dane was really excited about that) Swimming, Hancock Building, Greek Town.
I met up with my college friends on Saturday & went to "boys town" Sunday night for some "gay cabaret" I had the BEST time...

I realized my children are more European than I had thought. The kids & I ran into the grocery store, while I was paying the "bag girl" started bagging the groceries. Dane looks at her & says... "Excuse me Ma'am, but those are OUR groceries.." He thought she was going to make off with his cereal. (My kids aren't used to baggers...we have to do it our self in Norway.)
Eva is still having a little problem with the ROUND doorknobs here... (we only have handles... I think it is the same all over Europe)
So we finally arrived in Kansas City last night. Or should I say WEDDING CENTRAL?... OMGoodness..... 10 days to the big event... I think the last count is at 258 guests...WOW! The next week is going to be CRAZY.
On top of trying to get all of my American shopping done... back to school shopping... things I REALLY REALLY want shopping.... trying to get my teeth cleaned, eyes checked... get everything shipped back to Norway. I have a baby shower on Saturday, Eva's 4th birthday, my 12th wedding anniversary & a Bridal shower, which I am hosting, on Sunday. Then all of the out of town guests will start arriving.... Did I really think this was going to be my vacation?
None the less.... I am so HAPPY to be home... Just wish it could be longer....
I will try to get some pictures uploaded asap....
If I don't post much....I am sure you will understand why....
I am hosting a shower for my little sister on Sunday... Ummm... haven't even started to get it together... Just hit me this evening that I have 4 days to pull the whole thing together... Should be interesting...

ok, the story about bagging the groceries... absolutely adorable!!! I love it!

We just got back from Amsterdam and I realized more and more MY child is not Euro yet! Staying in a hotel without air con is not her cup of tea!! LOL

So the whole thing about the "Land of the Round Door knobs" is correct, huh?!
So to hear that things are going well (even though very busy!!). I MISS you!! Too bad the days of the $99 round tripfares to KC are a thing of the past...I would totally be crashing the wedding!!
Give my love to everyone!

Glad you're having a great time!!!

'Excuse me Ma'am, but those are OUR groceries' had me cracking up :-)

It kind of reminded me of my reaction to full service gas stations, when I first came to the US! :-)

Where is the trip to wrigley field????

That is so funny about bagging...we were just the opposite! In Norway, we just stood there staring like a bunch of spoiled idiots. Until someone heard us speaking English to each other as we were waiting and said "You have to bag them yourselves." Oops.

HAHA! Your daughter's comment to the check out woman made me laugh out loud. I am so happy you had a nice time in Chicago and I am even happier I've got the time to catch up on all your posts I missed during m own vacation.

PS. Did I tell you how much I like your new header?

Phew!!! I got tired just reading that! I'm glad you made it safely and can't wait to hear the next update! TOO funny about the bags and doorknobs!!

Have a GREAT time!
I am sure that the shower will be fabulous. Last minute things always have this way of working themselves out.

Cannot wait to hear more about your adventures - and especially what the "must haves" are that you have to ship back to Norway...

I am with Carolina Girl on that statement. I was exhausted reading your agenda. I was reading it faster and faster like I was running out of time.

And, I too need to know a list of your must haves. Plus, do you use the metric system over there? They were postive the entire world was going to be converting when I was a youngster in the mid sixties and I never could get the hang of it. What's the deal over there?
Your Sister's event will be delightfully perfecto. Share pics please.

How wonderful you get to be home, even if it's hectic & not for long. Happy birthday Eva...how is she doing, by the way?
Happy anniversary! How's Bjorn??
Good luck with the shower, I know it's stressful to host those things, but it will all be beautiful.

Hilarious about the groceries bagging and I didn't realize you guys didn't have door knobs, only handles. WEIRD.

LOL Love the grocery story - very sweet.

Interesting blog especially since Fredrikstad is my old hometown (actually from Onsøy).

Enjoy your holiday-look forward to some nice photos.

We took my daughter to the American Girl Place in NYC this last week. The girl thought she'd died and gone to heaven!
It sounds like you had a great time!
I love the reaction you kiddo had to the "bag girl!" That made me laugh!

When you have some time to breath and you are out of blogging topics (or just need something quick), do the meme I just tagged you with. I had to make you play...

I happened upon your blog today while searching for "Amercan Doctor in Norway". Do you have an American doctor who you see in Fredrikstad? I am an American medical student in Vermont, dating a Norwegian. Before I make the big move, I have been trying to get in contact with an American doctor practicing in Norway for professional advice. Please, please contact me if you can help put me in touch with such an individual! My boyfriend's family has a hytte near Fredrikstad, so we are often in that area when I come to visit.
Thanks!
