OK...so this just doesn't happen at home...

I will keep this short but sweet... on the way home from work I was just milling over the day... it was SOO Norwegian. Woke up this morning 4:45 to a bright mid day sun...stumbled down the stairs to get my coffee going , look out the window only to find a FLOCK OF SEAGULLS attacking my garbage can...
OK.. not these guys,
although they could have been fun to have a cup of coffee with...

but these little bastards...
Garbage ALL OVER THE STREET. Seeing as there are only 3 houses on the street thus far, there was no way I was going to be able to pretend that it was someone else. So out I go, in my jammies... with my bed head, (broad day light) picking up my garbage... Can't you just see the neighbors talking about the crazy American chic out in the street again? This of course, puts me way behind schedule... as I have a very important meeting with my boss who was coming in from the other side of the Fjord for a meeting. yodel ye who who.....
Drag my kiddies out of bed to get them dropped off to Farmors house (grandma) only to get behind some stupid ass electric car on our 2 lane road... YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I am all for saving the environment... electric cars are super as long as they do more than 20 miles an hour... I KID YOU NOT! It even had a sticker on the back saying it doesn't do more than 45 km... Nice, do us all a big ol' favor & ride your bike... your would get there faster & at least I could pass you.... Electric car ROAD RAGE... So we have our meeting with a little lunch thrown in... can you say MAT PAKKE... (which means lunch box) cause that is what we do here... we eat nice little open face "sandwiches" on WASA , with a cucumber... wrapped in white paper... ummm... All in all, I got there on time despite the seagulls, electric car & grumpy tired babies.. The meeting was a success... I was even able to use my English to translate the manual we were working with... They NEED me... they really do.. : ) Days like this I wish I had a little dog named Toto...so i could lean over & say... "Gee I don't think we are in Kansas (City) anymore."

Hi! I just stumbled upon you while viewing the featured blog from SITS today. I have this fascination with scandinavia, so I'm really enjoying your blog! Your daughter is too cute on that video you posted. I'll be back to read your archives I'm sure. Have a wonderful trip back to the states in a few weeks!

I just found your site while reading on SITS. I too am from KC and I too was an American living in Italy for 2 years due to my husband's career. I too shared the joys and frustrations of European vs. American life. I got stuck behind so many odd things it's hard for friends and family to believe me. Unlike you, I didn't have a camera phone or camera to snap pics of these "Special" occassions. IE. being stuck behind a flock of sheep as they're hearded down from the hills. This happened more than once. Being stuck behind grandma and grandpa out for their Sunday drive/ride on the back of their tractor at 5 miles an hour on a NARROW 2 lane road. I would love to know where in KC you are from. I graduated from Lee's Summit High School in 1991. Hope to chat with you, read more about you and your crew. I pray your hubby heals fast and isn't too bad of a patient as he is forced to chill. May God and The Force be with you.
